As summer vacation comes to an end, journalists from all over the state of California come to Cal State Long Beach to participate in a statewide journalism program.
They also help schools who aren’t able to produce a paper produce one.
“We’ve always had a passion for helping kids who love journalism,” Combs, co founder of Newspapers2 said. ” We strive to give the students an unforgettable experience.”
Kids that attend this camp leave learning more about journalism from the basics to how to post newspapers online. Everything the students do at Newspapers2 gets posted to the Newspapers2 website. However this program does not just benefit the students. It also helps the journalism teachers.
“We put this program together for the teachers also,” Combs said. “It helps them better their knowledge in journalism and help them produce a better newspaper.”
Jolene and Konnie have succeeded at what the Newspapers2 program was created to do.
New adviser John Rodriguez cosigns. “This program has helped me tremendously,” Rodriquez said. “It’s giving me a lot of new ideas and it’s very inspiring. I was actually happy to know that yearbook and journalism go hand in hand. So I’m killing two birds with one stone.”
The Newspapers2 program is not only educational, it is also fun and entertaining. It gives both the students and teachers a chance to interact with each other.
“It’s my first time attending a journalism training camp here at CSLB and I actually like it,” Rodriquez said. “Usually when I go to summer training it’s boring and i find myself having to push through a boring week, but I like this camp. A lot of training that teachers go through is boring but this one is the totally opposite.” “I would recommend this program to anyone who is a journalism teacher.”
