Mark Gonzales will be there to greet you at the information desk of CSU Long Beach. He might also be the next person to put you under in your next surgery.
As a chemistry major at CSU Long Beach, Gonzales fascinated by the creation of compounds such as plastics and metals. However, his plans go further than just chemistry. After graduating next year, Gonzales plans to enter the world of medical school and study to become an anesthesiologist.
Of course, planning to go to medical school and getting in are two different things. Gonzales knows this is a competitive field, but isn’t too worried. As a 22 year old who describes himself as laid-back and even “goofy”, Gonzales is open minded about his future. If he doesn’t get into medical school, he may go into food science, another chemistry related field that captures his attention.
Like any young person, Gonzales is not all work. He enjoys playing sports, having played football all four years in high school. Today though, he plays various sports socially, rather than committing time to an organized sport. The majority of his time is consumed by studying the complex concepts behind chemistry.
For now Gonzales sits at the information desk, answering the questions of visitors and enjoying flexible hours. He knows, with hard work, he will soon be making his way to the surgery room.
